Eclipse 2024 Viewing Event

Online tickets (sold out) or a membership are required for entry before 5pm, Monday April 8. Ticket or membership holders will receive free glasses to safely enjoy the solar eclipse, as well as indoor viewing and programming. Walk-ins are welcome from 5pm-7:30pm but are not guaranteed glasses.

Embark on an extraordinary journey at Discovery Centre’s Solar Eclipse Event! Be immersed in an unparalleled cosmic experience featuring special guests and a myriad of out-of-this-world activities. From engaging with experts in the field to safely observing the eclipse through solar telescopes and eclipse glasses, you will have the opportunity to delve into the marvels of space exploration. With activities ranging from galactic scavenger hunts to hands-on learning about lunar missions and the science of space suits, our event promises to ignite curiosity and inspire lifelong learners!  

Monday, April 8th, 1:00PM – 7:30PM.
Eclipse viewing will happen at approximately 3:30PM – 5:30PM, outside weather pending, with live streaming inside.

  • Eclipse Viewing (approx. 3:30PM – 5:30PM) 
  • Take in a Dome Theatre presenter-led Live Star Show 
  • Traverse a galactic scavenger hunt 
  • Hold a meteorite in your hands 
  • Discover the science of space suits and our vacuum chamber 
  • Create a pinhole viewer

Members

If you are a Discovery Centre Member, please show your Membership Card and ID at the front door to receive entry. Pre-registration is not required for Members. Anyone not included on your valid membership will be required to purchase a ticket ahead of time.

To celebrate the upcoming total solar eclipse on April 8th, Discovery Centre, in collaboration with the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, is thrilled to announce the distribution of free and safe eclipse viewing glasses to every provincial school.

The initiative aims to bring the wonders of astronomy directly into classrooms and communities across Nova Scotia, offering students a unique opportunity to witness and learn about this rare celestial event. Each student will receive their own pair of eclipse viewing glasses, ensuring a safe and unforgettable viewing experience, along with educational curriculum-connected resources to be shared in classrooms.
