Graphic Designer

Are you a creative graphic designer, photographer and videographer waiting to be inspired by a dynamic and energetic work environment? The Discovery Centre, an award-winning science centre and one of Halifax’s top attractions located on the vibrant Halifax waterfront, is recruiting a full-time designer to work as a key member of its marketing & sales department.

Science Educator (Driving Discovery) (Bilingual – French/English)

The Science Educator’s role is to plan, develop, and deliver the Driving Discovery program, an inquiry-based program for grades 7 and 8 classrooms across the province. The Science Educator is responsible for building educational materials within the NS Department of Education and Early Childhood Development’s online environment and providing teacher professional development related to the Driving Discovery program. Travel within the province of Nova Scotia will be a significant part of this role.

Summer Positions

Promotion Representative

Are you an outgoing individual?  Are you secretly psyched about science? The Discovery Centre is looking for you to join its team as a Promotional Representative this summer. Reporting to the Manager, Marketing & Communications, the Promotional Representative is responsible for the implementation of the organization’s promotional strategy to engage waterfront and downtown visitors creating awareness of the new location and encouraging Discovery Centre visitation. The Promotional Representative is a highly motivated, high energy individual with passion and experience for engaging the public in promotional activity. 

Bilingual STEM Facilitator, Featured Gallery

The Bilingual STEM (Science/Technology/Engineering/Mathematics) Facilitator will be a member of the visitor experience team working in the fun and challenging setting of a hands-on science centre. The Facilitator will use both official languages to orient and assist visitors, interpret exhibits, and deliver exciting science demonstrations in the featured gallery of the centre.

Dome Theatre Presenter

The Dome Theatre Presenter is a member of the Science Experience team responsible for the delivery of an exceptional experience for all visitors to Discovery Centre’s 65 seat dome theatre. The main objective of the job is to develop and deliver live presenter led STEM themed shows within the dome theatre for visitors. 

Health Science Facilitator (Co-Op)

The Health Science Facilitator’s role is to plan, develop, implement and deliver engaging hands-on activities and presentations on the science of public health and communicable disease prevention in the Discovery Centre and communities across Nova Scotia. 

OceanEnergy STEM Facilitator -Co-Op

The main objective of the position is to work as a member of the Science Experience team to create exciting, stimulating, hands-on/minds-on science education experiences for visitors in the energy and ocean galleries. The Facilitator will assist with the maintenance of the life support systems of aquaria including its flora and fauna which require to be fed and receive everything they need to live and thrive in their environment. 

Science Inclusion Facilitator (Co-op Position)

The main objective of the job is to assist with the development of the Centre’s inclusion program for visitors. This includes identifying ways the Centre can enhance its supportive and respectful environment for its public program attendees and visitors. The incumbent will work with the education team to build the STEAM experience programming so that individuals with intellectual and developmental needs grow their participation in the visitor experience

STEM on Demand Facilitator

The main objective of the position is the delivery of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) based activities for digital (coding/circuits) camps and discovery on demand program events within HRM and at times across the province. The position will give the student experience managing a budget, coordinating and delivering educational and recreational programs, building relationships with local community organizations, developing leadership skills and supervising youth. 

Science Camp Counsellor (6 positions)

As a Science Camp Counsellor you will be responsible for the delivery of the summer camp programming for children ages 5-12. The STEM based programming will include workshops and field trips that highlight local sustainability, nature, health and wellness and climate change.

Science Camp Leader

The main objective of the position is the development and delivery of STEAM (STEM) activities for campers ages 5-12. The position will give the student experience working in a team setting, training staff, managing a budget, coordinating and delivering educational and recreational programs, building relationships with local community organizations, developing leadership skills and supervising youth. 

IT Specialist (Co-op Education Incentive Program, Summer)

The Specialist is responsible for proactively determining, developing, and implementing the Centre’s IT goals. The Specialist will address end-user systems including software and hardware, infrastructure maintenance and server/cloud service support
