Applicants must be current students returning to post-secondary studies in Fall 2025 and must be a Canadian citizen/permanent resident as per the candidate eligibility criteria of the grant program(s) funding this role. Applicants may be required to complete a pre-screening survey to determine if they meet the eligibility criteria. International students with work visas are ineligible under this funding program and will not be considered for this role.

The Digital Discovery Camp Counsellor works collaboratively with the Digital Discovery Camp Leader to help plan and develop engaging camp activities centered around coding, circuitry, and/or robotics for youth ages 9-13 in partnership with Digital Nova Scotia. Digital camps are delivered at Discovery Centre and free to various communities throughout the province of Nova Scotia.
The Digital Discovery Camp Counsellor will benefit from the opportunity of working in a challenging and dynamic science themed program setting, providing significant opportunity to improve upon their communication skills, organizational skills, knowledge of science, knowledge of educational practices, and ability to work with the public and children.
Description of Tasks:
The Digital Discovery Camp Counsellor works in the Science Education department and reports to the Manager of Science Education and the Digital Discovery Camp Leader. The primary tasks of the position are:
- Successfully collaborating with the Camp Leader and Digital Nova Scotia and other community organizations to plan and develop hands-on learning activities and games for Digital Discovery Camp
- Helping deliver camp programming related to coding/circuits/robotics etc. for 15-20 youth attending Digital Discovery Camps at Discovery Centre and across the province
- Supervising campers while taking responsibility for their safety and enjoyment
- Assisting in providing guidance to campers and youth volunteers
- Maintaining a clean and safe work area
- Assisting in camp promotion
- Tracking camp weeks in daily journal of activities
Qualifications:
Education: Post-secondary studies in computer science, education, recreation, or a related discipline
Experience: Experience in child supervision, preferably in an educational, recreational, museum or camp setting; experience in preparing and presenting workshops an asset; experience in the fields of graphic design, digital animation, video production, or video game development/design would be considered an asset
Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required; additional languages (especially French) considered an asset

Other Qualifications:
- Proficient in MS Office applications
- Must pass a criminal record check or vulnerable sector check
