March Break

This March Break will be Dino-mite fun at Discovery Centre! Control gigantic dinosaurs in our new exhibit DINOSAURS IN MOTION, watch our new Dome Theatre shows, and get hands-on and minds-on with science programming! March Break 2023 is the ultimate time to visit Discovery Centre! There’s so much fun to be had and memories to be made, you won’t want to miss a thing.

March Break Hours:
March 11th – 19th, 9am – 12pm and 1pm – 4pm (pre-purchasing or booking of tickets required. Please see FAQs.)

Please note that for March 11th – 19th you must reserve tickets online for everyone in your group before coming to the Discovery Centre. To avoid wait times, please select Purchase Online option. Tickets for March Break, March 11th19th, can be reserved on a 72-hour rolling schedule, meaning you can book up to 72 hours in advance of a desired visit date. Tickets will go on sale March 8th at 8:30 am for visits on March 11th and will continue on a rolling basis for the duration of March Break.

Purchase or renew your Discovery Centre Membership to keep the STEAM fun going all year long! Just three visits and your membership pays for itself. Purchase in person at our Front Desk or sign up online.

Activities

DINOSAURS IN MOTION (level 0)
Meet gigantic, magnificent, recycled-metal dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures at our newest featured exhibit. Control them before they take over! 

Fossils & Flyers (level 0)
Create your own prehistoric flyer and test it in our giant wind tunnel, and check out real fossils, 10s of millions of years old. 

Stormy Science (level 1 Atrium)
Create a soaking cloudburst, and as the rain falls, explore how we can use engineering know-how to curb the effects of storms and floods. Proudly supported by Halifax Water.

Touch Pool Demonstrations (level 1)
Drop by our aquarium to meet the sea stars, anemones, urchins, and hermit crabs that call our shores home. Learn how they move, eat, and relate to each other with an upclose and personal view. 

Solar Circus (level 2)
Soak up the sun as we explore how solar cells turn light into electricity. Challenge yourself and your family to power up a solar circuit complete with LEDs and switches. You may even get a shocking surprise!

Make-a-Saurus (level 3)
Become a foam fossil archaeologist and reconstruct a dinosaur from tooth to tail! Explore bones and balance and use your imagination and creativity as you build and name your DIY Dino.

Take a 360° tour of the galaxy with a Live Star Show or a Featured Film.

Bundle up as we journey to the furthest planets in our planetary system, the mysteriously frosty ice giants, Uranus and Neptune! Ages 6+

No Escape: The Science of Black Holes
Why are black holes black and where do they come from? Allow yourself to be pulled in as we explore the mysteries and science of black holes! Ages 7+

Dome Theatre tickets are only available to buy in-person, for guests who have purchased admission. Showtimes are subject to change without notice any given time or day. Dome Theatre tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis.

  1. Reserve your spot by purchasing tickets online before you arrive, up to 3 days in advance of the day of interest
  2. Make a reservation for 9am-12pm or 1pm-4pm, and provide the confirmation name at the door
  3. While you’re here, sign up for a membership, 3 visits and it pays for itself

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to purchase tickets online in advance?

All visitors, must pre-register online before your visit. To avoid wait times, please select purchase online. We are not accepting walk-ins. Time slots will be available online for reservation three days prior on a first-come first-served basis.

Do Members need a ticket?

Members are not required to reserve a ticket. Please be prepared to show your membership card or photo ID when you arrive to be fast-tracked..

When can I purchase tickets?

Admission tickets for all sessions between March 11-19 will be available three days in advance at 8:30 am.

Can my group come during March Break?

We are not able to accommodate group bookings including birthday parties from March 11-19.

What measures are in place to ensure my family’s safety?

Several measures have been put in place to ensure visitor safety including:

  • Focused cleaning on high touch surfaces
  • Products such as hand sanitizer are readily available
  • High interaction areas such as the front desk and café have been enclosed
  • Encouraged mask-wearing
