DC MAKES: Maker in Residence Program

Want to be our next Maker-In-Residence?

Do you have a wild idea you want to bring to life and share with the public? The Discovery Centre invites you to apply to the DC MAKES: Maker in Residence program. Part maker, part mentor, the Maker in Residence is a uniquely creative and motivated innovator who works over 3 months to complete an inspiring project in the Michelin Corporate Foundation Innovation Lab.

Maker in Residence

The Maker in Residence is provided with a modest monthly stipend, and coordinates with the Innovation Lab team to schedule use of the space and equipment (e.g. laser cutter, 3D printers, Arduino microcontrollers, hand tools).

As part of the residency, the Maker in Residence joins the Innovation Lab team at least 8-hours per week, engaging all ages in their creative process while working towards their big idea. The Maker in Residence works with the team to plan and lead one public drop-in activity in each month of the residency.

The final project will be unveiled at the end of the term, and may be temporarily displayed in the Innovation Lab as a source of inspiration for Discovery Centre visitors.

A Discovery Centre judging panel will select the Maker in Residence based on the following criteria:

  • Project type (to ensure a diversity of residency projects)
  • Project’s feasibility and innovative qualities
  • Maker in Residence’s ability to engage the public in the project
  • Maker in Residence’s experience interacting with visitors of all ages
  • Must be 17+ years or older
  • Commitment of 8-hours in the lab per week

Apply now for our next residency, beginning April 2018. Only top applicants meeting the above criteria will be contacted via email for an interview.

Discovery Centre’s Spring Residency will take place from April to June.

Discovery Centre’s Maker in Residence, an initiative of the DC MAKES program, is made possible through the generous support of Wade Dawe.
