How will the Discovery Centre ensure physical distancing among campers?
Each camp will be run in a large designated space, separate from the other camps, with marked directional traffic flow. Each camper will be assigned a seat for the duration of camp. Camp activities will provide the best camper experience while considering physical distancing guidelines, including offering individual activity kits to minimize shared equipment use and playing contactless games. Camp orientation will introduce physical distancing and handwashing rules in a fun, engaging way and campers will be expected to follow these rules throughout camp to ensure a safe experience for all.
What other measures is the Discovery Centre taking?
Parents will be asked to sign and campers to acknowledge a camp contract outlining the requirement to maintain physical distance, adhere to handwashing routines, and the need to stay home if exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19. You will be required to acknowledge this contract daily with drop-off. Early drop-off fees will be waived, and drop off hours extended to 8:00 – 9:00 am, in order to avoid congestion.
Camp staff and all Discovery Centre employees complete daily screening questions for potential symptoms, exposure, or travel outside the province prior to arriving onsite to ensure staff stay home if there is a risk to public health.
Several measures have been put in place to ensure camper safety including reduced group size, controlled traffic flow, personal protective equipment for staff, and enhanced cleaning of the Centre, with a focus on camper areas. Campers are required to wear masks.
Will Discovery Centre camp staff be wearing masks?
Staff will be provided non-medical masks to wear and their use will be required in any situation where physical distancing cannot be maintained.
What is the capacity for these camps?
We are working with Nova Scotia’s public health guidelines and ensuring all day camp regulations are met or exceeded.
