Summer Science Camp Counsellor

Position Category:  Full Time, 12 full weeks (June 10 to August 30, 2019)
Starting Salary:  $12.75/Hour
Working Hours:  40 hours per week

Position Summary:
The main objective of the job is to co-develop and deliver exciting, stimulating, hands-on science activities for camp participants (ages 6 -12) and to give the student experience working in a team setting, delivering educational and recreational programs, and supervising youth.

Description of Tasks:
The Camp Counsellor works in the Science Education department under the supervision of the Manager of Science Education and Programming and the Science Camp Leader. The primary tasks are:

1) cooperatively deliver meaningful science education and STEAM experiences appropriate for children ages 6-12
2) supervise campers while taking responsibility for their safety and enjoyment
3) assist in providing guidance to campers and youth volunteers
4) maintain a clean and safe work area
5) assist in camp promotion
6) track camp weeks in daily journal of activities

Qualifications:
Enrolled in education, science or other related disciplines at a university level. Experience in child supervision, preferably in an educational, recreational, museum or camp setting. Experience in preparing and presenting workshops an asset. Fluency in English is essential. Discovery Centre is an equal opportunity employer.
