Position Summary

The Partnerships Coordinator is primarily responsible for cultivating and securing a base of new donors within the $1,000 to $25,000 giving range. This progressive career opportunity will require:

  1. Strong fundraising and/or personal sales skills to achieve fundraising targets;
  2. Superior writing skills to efficiently prepare sponsorship packages and grant applications for corporate prospects and foundations;
  3. Outstanding overall communication skills to strengthen and steward donor relationships including formal and informal reporting;
  4. Donor and market research support for the Manager, Partnerships;
  5. Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge fundraising software.

Summary of Responsibilities


  • Personally recruit corporate and individual donor prospects within the giving range of $1,000 to $25,000 to help meet annual fiscal targets identified in the Discovery Centre business plan.
  • Provide communications support, proposal and grant preparation, research and reports under the direction of the Manager of Partnerships as well as presentations and other meeting materials as required.
  • Establish and maintain filing systems including database records and partner distribution lists.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Fund Development:

  • Conduct research on prospective donors particularly in the areas of interest, giving history and linkages to Discovery Centre.
  • Initiate and prepare proposals and grant applications for submission to potential partners.
  • Manage the fulfillment of gift agreements (stewardship) and report preparation for Discovery Centre partners.
  • Record all communications and pertinent information within Raiser’s Edge NXT software.
  • Create prospect files and prepare briefing documents.
  • Assist with the launch and management of annual and planned giving campaigns.


  • Post-secondary education in communications or business plus two to three years of work experience in fundraising or equivalent desirable; familiarity with philanthropic community and knowledge of academic environments desirable;
  • Strong writing skills with meticulous attention to detail;
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of graphic applications and Raiser’s Edge NXT database system;
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment;
  • Demonstrated professionalism, judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential or sensitive matters;
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and juggle competing demands to meet deadlines.
